Weekend Finds

First of all, I meant to post this earlier in the week, but I didn’t get around to it. This would make a good Monday post, but oh well. Here it is already Wednesday!

Anyways, this last weekend I decided to begin my hardcore garage sale-ing for the year. To be honest, I’ve never gotten big into it because of the time it seems to take, and where do you find the deals? Well, after reading a post from 320 Sycamore, I decided to get my rear into gear on it. There ARE deals to be found, you just have to try.

So here’s what I scored this weekend…

Garage Sales:

Well I planned out my garage sales using MapQuest; however, I didn’t have much luck in terms of them being open. It was pretty icky and rainy so I did lose out on the first 4 garage sales I tried for. Oh well, I suppose that will happen, but I push through. I’m glad I did… Garage Sale Finds
It could have been more, but I tried to limit myself to what I’m looking for mainly for the office redo I mentioned in my last post. I’m really trying to look for specific things to limit the “junk” I start piling up. Here’s what I found:

Thrift Store Finds First I found 3 frames at a church rummage sale. I picked out ones that were a little bit or a lot ornate. I love the white one. I have a project planned with these for our office, but I will show you THAT later. ;)
Price: $1 for all three

Finding Deals At Thrift Stores Next I found these jars. These are not for the office, but for our kitchen. However, these are perfect for our fettucine and spaghetti pasta. I have these three large jars that look just like these, but are too short and round for longer pastas. So even though these weren’t on my “list” for the office projects, I decided to pick them up anyways.
Price: $1 for both

Finding Deals At Garage Sales Finally, my favorite find – BLUE Ball jars! So since I’m a garage sale newbie, I don’t know. These might be the easiest thing to find at garage sales. But I have them specifically planned in my office redesign. I have plans for them and need as many as I can get. So I was so happy that on my first garage sale hunt, I found 5. Four of them are smaller, but one is huge and I have something cool I’ll be doing with that one.
Price: $5 for all 5 jars

Salvation Army:

Since I was passing it, I decided to hit it anyways. Why not? Garage Sale Finds I’m really glad I did, mainly for two of these things I found…

Thrift Store Finds This is the first one I am so thrilled I found. I have been looking for a pineapple finial for the longest time to act as a bookend, and now it’s actually designed to go into our office. Even though this one isn’t a pineapple, it is the perfect shape. So I picked it up as soon as I eyed it.
Price: $6.99

Finding Deals At Garage Sales The next thing I am also really thrilled about. It may just look like an ugly tissue box cover, but I actually had this on my list for the office makeover. Finding Deals At Thrift Stores Here’s a little hint on what I plan to do with it (I’ll show you later):
Price: $1.99

Garage Sale Finds I also found a rose mint julep cup. The one on the right is the one I found, the one on the left I already had. Even though this isn’t for the office, I couldn’t pass up having a pair of them!
Price: $4.99

Thrift Store Finds This one also wasn’t on my list (I know, tisk tisk). But it is a perfect little bin for the back of a toilet or something. I’m not sure yet, but I will keep it on hand for the day I redo either of our bathrooms.
Price: $2.99

Dollar Tree:

I wanted to go to the Dollar Tree because I heard someone say they got a good deal on these bins (which weren’t at my dollar store unfortunately) but I did find some stuff anyways. Finding Deals At Garage Sales
The baskets I got because I thought they would work good for the battery storage in the office. Unfortunately they didn’t work the way I wanted, but I’m sure I’ll use them for something else.

Finding Deals At Thrift Stores I also found this cute little bird tealight holder. I plan on painting it, but I see these everywhere. So I thought it was really cute for an accessory in the office and it is also a candle holder so that’s awesome.
Price: $1

Burlington Coat Factory:

Garage Sale Finds Finally I went to Burlington because Censational Girl had mentioned that she saw some great Waverly office supplies at hers and I wanted to check out mine for them. They would go PERFECTLY with the new office design I’m working on. Unfortunately, there wasn’t as much of a variety and I cleaned out all the boxes they had left.

The best part though is that I got all 5 of them for just $40! That’s amazing considering how much these boxes are at Michael’s, and they’re Waverly too. So I have all sorts of things I can store in these beauties. But that is for another post…
