Supplies Checklist:
- Foam Board
- Cardstock/Scrapbook Paper
- Letter Stickers
- Letter Stamps
- Number Stamps or Printed Numbers
- Blank Tags
- Decorative Scissors
- Push Pins
- Single Hole Punch
- Ribbon
- Material
- Glue Dots
- Regular Stapler
Step-By-Step Tutorial:
Gather the supplies above.
Take the letter stickers you got and put them onto a piece of scrapbook paper, then cut around with regular scissors about a 1/8″ border on all sides. [Hint: This project is a great project to use up some of your scraps leftover from other projects!]
Now paste it onto one of the tags and cut around it with decorative scissors to give a “torn” look to it.
Continue doing this will all the letters for all of the months. Remember, you’ll be able to rotate out each of the letters each month. So you’ll need:
A’s – 2, B’s – 1, C’s – 1, D’s – 1, E’s – 3, F’s – 1, G’s – 1, H’s – 1, I’s – 1, J’s – 1, K’s – 0, L’s – 1, M’s – 1, N’s – 1, O’s – 2, P’s – 1, Q’s – 0, R’s – 2, S’s – 1, T’s – 1, U’s – 2, V’s – 1, W’s – 0, X’s – 0, Y’s – 1, Z’s – 0
Next, for the days of the week, I stamped each of the abbreviations onto a cream colored piece of paper and then pasted to a pattern piece of paper and cut out with decorative scissors.
Next stamp, or print out all 31 numbers for the numbers of the month. I cut them to about 1″ x 1″.
Cut out the blue cardstock into squares for the numbers. I cut them to about 1¼” x 1¼” to leave a small border around the number.
Paste the printed number to the center of the blue cardstock.
Then paste that onto the bottom of a red piece of cardstock about 1½” wide by 2″ heigh. It is a little taller to leave some room to punch a hole into the top of the number.
Cut your piece of foamboard to the correct size. I cut mine to about 18″x24″. To see how to cut foamboard with a clean straight edge, see my Scrapbook Paper Wall Art tutorial.
Cut a piece of fabric the size of the foamboard, leaving some overhang for stapling.
Lay the fabric under the foam board to prepare for stapling.
Staple the material around the sides with a regular stapler. You don’t want to use a heavy duty stapler because the staples will go too far and it’s not necessary.
Continue all the way around, pulling the material tight as you go.
Cut off any excess material you can.
Next paste a piece of scrapbook paper to the center of the foam board. This is to add some color and decoration so choose wisely!
Staple a piece of thick white ribbon diagonally on the foamboard. Staple it from the back to the ends of the ribbon.
Do the same thing to another piece of ribbon on the opposite diagonal.
Continue until you have a hatch pattern over the board.
Now staple a smaller ribbon down the right edge of the paper in the center of the foam board.
Continue doing this around all four edges of the scrapbook paper.
Next paste a thin strip of solid cardstock to the top portion of the scrapbook paper within the borders of the smaller ribbon. This is to give a backing for the days of the week.
Paste the days of the week to the solid cardstock.
Attach the numbers to the foamboard with push pins, according to the current month.
Attach the letters to spell out the current month along the top of the foam board with push pins as well.
Done! To see how to mount the foamboard onto the wall see my Scrapbook Paper Wall Art tutorial. Now you’ll be able to change the calendar easily each month! The creative possibilities here are endless. You could create cute little day tabs for the special holidays with holiday scrapbook paper and so on.
