Supplies Checklist:

  • Old Towel
  • Thicker Material (like vinyl) – Check for remnants!
  • Scissors
  • Thread
  • Sewing Machine
  • Stuffing (I decided not to use the foam pictured)
  • Interfacing or Paper (if you want to make a pattern of it)

Step-By-Step Tutorial:

  • DIY Slippers Gather the materials above.
  • Make Your Own Slippers Trace around an old pair of slippers (or your foot if you don’t have an old pair you want to use).
  • Recycle Old Towels Trace over the pencil with marker and include instructions on the pattern piece.
  • How To Recycle Old Towels Be sure to add a seam allowance (about ½” is good) and cut it out.
  • DIY Slippers Do the same thing with the other foot.
  • Make Your Own Slippers Trace the same thing again and then cut it in half (this will be the top of the slipper.
  • Recycle Old Towels Do the same thing with the other slipper.
  • How To Recycle Old Towels Cut out both of these, on the fold. I forgot to add seam allowances to these so I cut about &frac12″ out from the pattern.
  • DIY Slippers Cut out the inside of the slippers on the towel material. You just need one of each of these.
  • Make Your Own Slippers Do the same thing with the vinyl material.
  • Recycle Old Towels Sew the open area of the top (wrong sides together) of the slipper together.
  • How To Recycle Old Towels Sew all the way around, leaving a small opening so you can flip it right side out.
  • DIY Slippers Do the same thing with the other top of the slipper.
  • Make Your Own Slippers Flip the top of the slipper right side out.
  • Recycle Old Towels Sew the opening together by hand.
  • How To Recycle Old Towels Do the same thing with the other top.
  • DIY Slippers Now pin the vinyl piece and the bottom inside towel piece right sides together.
  • Make Your Own Slippers Sew all the way around, leaving a small opening so you can flip it right side out.
  • Recycle Old Towels Flip the bottom right side out through the opening you left.
  • How To Recycle Old Towels Do the same with the left slipper.
  • DIY Slippers Fill with stuffing to make a nice soft bottom for your feet.
  • Make Your Own Slippers Pin together the opening by folding the outside in.
  • Recycle Old Towels Sew the opening together by hand.
  • How To Recycle Old Towels Repeat with the other slipper.
  • DIY Slippers Now pin the top of the slipper to the bottom of the slipper like so.
  • Make Your Own Slippers Sew the top to the bottom by hand, leaving an opening for your foot! Note: You could use a sewing machine if you have one that will allow that thick of material to go through; but sadly, I don’t have one that will. :(
  • Recycle Old Towels Repeat with the other slipper.
  • How To Recycle Old Towels You’re done! Now you have a new pair of slippers from an old towel. Enjoy and be comfy.
Thanks to Cut Out + Keep for the original idea for this project and the tips on how to make it possible.
